About Me
Born in Taiwan, Pei-Ying moved to New Zealand at the age of 11.
She started taking piano lessons when she was 5, under the Yamaha system in Taiwan.
Her mother was approached by the group piano teacher Miss. Chen at the time, that Pei-Ying is musically gifted, and that she should never give up music.
However, it was not until she moved to Christchurch that she found her love with music, under the tutelage of Sue Campbell.
Under her influence, she was encouraged to take every performance opportunity that was presented. She was in the Specialist Music Programme at Burnside High School and was appointed the accompanist for all 5 choirs at the school, including the award-winning Bel Canto.
She was a finalist at the New Zealand Secondary Chamber Music Festival with the Popper Quartet.
Pei-Ying received distinction in every Piano Practical Exams that was offered by The Royal Academy, and was the top-scorer in New Zealand for 3 years in a row, with which she was awarded the Irene Lassen Award at the age of 16 and again at 17.
She studied piano performance at the University of Canterbury under Diedre Irons and Maurice Till, and graduated with Masters of Music in Piano Performance in 2005.
She has since relocated to Wellington as of 2011, and is teaching from home after schools on week-days. She also has a chamber group Wellywind Trio with flutists Anna Prasannan & Elsa Shih, and perform regularly around Wellington events and venues.
She speaks fluent English and Mandarin, but teaches in English - however, many of her students' parents find her Mandarin knowledge beneficial, as they are able to communicate with Pei-Ying in Mandarin.

Piano Teaching
Pei-Ying has been teaching piano since 2002, her students thrived in both Trinity and Royal Academy's piano exams, with most students achieving distinctions and merits under her tuition. Some of her students went on to become piano teachers and some continued on to studying piano performance at Victoria University (School of Music).
Between her Yamaha background, perfect pitch and New Zealand school training, she has combined the best of all worlds and developed her own way of teaching. Her students not only have good techniques in playing, but they also succeed in sight-reading, aural, theory, performance and are encouraged to compose their own music.
